Information Dissemination:
Information dissemination is the process of spreading knowledge, data, or news to a wide audience through various channels such as media, communication
networks, or public platforms.
Education:
Two-way communication may include classroom and/or small group sessions, evidence-based education programs, professional development for staff, and parent education programs.
Environmental:
Establish or change/strengthen community standards, norms, and policies around substance use and misuse. Examples may include: Educating the community on policies such as Social Hosting Laws, server training, zero-tolerance policies, and modifying advertising practices for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Community-Based Process:
Strengthen the community’s ability to effectively provide prevention and treatment/recovery services for substance use disorders. Examples may include volunteer training on substance use prevention, and strengthening relationships among community members through coalition development.
Problem Identification & Referral:
Identify individuals who have engaged in illegal or age-inappropriate use of tobacco or alcohol and who have indulged in the first use of illicit drugs to assess if their behavior can be reversed through education. Examples may include student assistance programs and referrals to services.
Alternatives:
Provides support for substance-free community events. Examples may include drug free dances and parties, youth leadership activities, and community service activities.
